Crikey dude, I'll try and be polite...

Have a really good read through some old threads, every week there's something similar asked.

Fundamantally, the standard car's breathing is fantastic as standard and you'll really gain very little with any of these mods, which is why you'll find so many of the guys have ended up with turbos or 16valve engines.

Don't waste your time/effort on this. You won't make any difference, despite what ebay may proclaim.

Really? on this subject?

Having it rebored, ported or polished in my opinion is a waste of time, it may show some results but probably not worth the effort.

Ok, won't be doing that then. I know they go really well, just thought maybe the casting could be improved or something.

Thanks

On tuning the 8V engines in general, yes. If huge amounts of head work, uprated cams, exhaust, bottom end work can gain something like 20-30HP, playing about with the inlet manifold isn't really going to turn the car into a rocket ship.

I'm not saying don't do it, I love tinkering. But to expect modest returns for money and effort expended sounds reasonable?

And there is plenty of reading to do on here. There have been two threads this month with ' a few more horses' in the title for example.

Worthwhile reading on here about 8V tuning.

Edit: OK, so ignore that then, I'll trust these chaps below on that!

Even my mate from Newcastle says he's a con artist with his Ford engine tuning.

Look at HighFailHeads for example, good looking website doesn't mean sh!t. My mate was sold a 'GTI6' engine which turned out to be a diesel bottom end with a 306 XSI head. £1600 for the engine and conversion loom, and it was the biggest pile of wank I've seen.

Another member on here was sold a 'Petrol Turbo' engine and guess what... Dturbo block

I know what others are saying but I can tell you from my own experience that an aftermarket manifold made a VERY noticable difference in torque and power on our 1.6 compared to the standard manifold, definately a big difference.

what sort of aftermarket manifold did you buy?

As said , the entry side is the crappy area , i did mine along with the head and TB as well ... but nothing much you can do to make noticeable effect without other engine mods in combo ... smooth up the top square area on the entry sides of all the 4 runners and do the same on the head inlet port sides .. but just the top side (roof) do not touch or grind on the bottom side .. also , remove the TB and butterfly with the throttle shaft out from the TB , smooth up the sharp lips inside the TB and grind/thin a bit of metal off the throttle shaft area around the butterfly (remove the butterfly first of course , and file off the butterfly securing screws after shaft mods and apply loctite on the threads prior to refitting)

That's if you fancy messing about with this , wouldn't do anything else though no polishing/re-boring/enlarging crap .. but expect next to nothing without other mods ..

He was banned from here a couple of years ago, disagreement with another forum member that was quite public.
