Tuning Set Up / Best Oil

Recommended Posts

Guest twelham

Guys,

Can you recommend the best quality oil to use in my standard 1991 (Phase 2) 205 1.9 GTI Non Cat.

I was looking to purchase Castrol GTX Magnatec 10/40 Semi Synth, would this be suitable for my engine?

Plus, Id like to book the car in for a tune (set up) and service with a good specialist in the South East. Im based in Surrey but willing to travel for a company / individual that knows the cars welll and can improve how its runs.

Help much appeciated.

Cheers

10w-40 semi synthetic is the norm and with regular changes is just fine, the Castrol will do.

If you want to go better then you are looking at a 10w-40 or 5w-40 synthetic.

Look up your car here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-861-car-engine-oils.aspx and you should find a selection of suitable oils.

Cheers

Cheers Guy, Castrol Magnatec it is then - thanks for your advice. I will get a new oil filter direct from Peugeot to accompany it? Will I need a code to get the 10% member discount on your website?

Also can anyone recommend a good specialist to set up the engine please (Ideally in the South East). Thanks

Paul Smith

I've started using Pro-long oil in my cars which I have found to be good. 10-40w but can with stand more temp than a fully synthetic and they warranty your engine if any part that uses the oil wears out.

Pro Long really isn't quite what they make out it is. Have you read the details of the warranty? When I checked it over before, there was something about the car must have Pro Long in there from when the engine is about 3000 miles old to make the warranty valid. Well that instantly counts out a lot of cars as the Pro Long oil doesn't meet the specs necessary to keep the warranty. Then you have to send off a form each year to say that you've been good and keep topping it up with the Pro Long. I haven't read the warranty rules in a while, but when I did before, they really covered themselves well.

Believe me, oils like Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Redline, Gulf Competition and Motul 300V are far better oils.

When you register on the website there is a dropdown menu with all the clubs we support. Select 205gtidrivers and you'll automatically get the members prices.

We also have an offer until Sunday, enter the code OPIESAVER to get an extra 15% off.

Cheers

Tim
