Fuel Filler Cap Plastic Body Trim

Hi,

 

I am just wondering if it is possible to remove the fuel filler cap plastic trim which lines up with the GTi badge on the drivers side?

 

If you have removed this, could you share your wisdom? I have searched extensively on the topic but it is not (easily) found.

yes its possible, take off the fuel cap, prise off the big round bit, look on the back and you will see that the black trim clips through the round outer piece, carefully unclip this using a small flat blade screwdriver.

Sorry to butt in to the thread.

 

I need to strip mine down cause I can almost always see fumes venting from it more so in the summer so I need to get a new one.

 

How do I remove the lock from it(barrel)?

Pretty certain the lock is pretty well integral with the cap. When I bought a new lock set, it included the whole cap apart from the external trim parts (body colour section & black trim around lock). Assume there is a rubber seal in there, surely that's all you need to replace?

you can take the barrel out of the cap, its held in with a circlip IIRC.
