just a quick question, how high should a 1.9 gti rev? as mine only goes to 6k??

I think it should go higher so any ideas as to why its limited?

Cheers, Stuart

6k is peak power on a good 1.9, should rev to 6200 ish, rev counters not always that accurate though

Yup 6250 ish, there's not usually any more power above there from most standard 1.9's tbh, although as WP says the rev counters are commonly inaccurate!

Ah, I can take my 1.9 to 7500 before changing gear, I guess my ecu's been delimited then? :)

erm, yes i should think so, either that or the rev counter is very out.

I presume there's not much advantage in revving it out that high though?

almost certaionly not if its a stock engine, mine now runs motronic and still makes peak at the same 6000 rpm as before though does make a couple more than it did.

It pulls well all the way up to 7500 but now I know what the rev limit should be I might put my spare ecu in as I didnt realise I was abusing the poor thing that much.

I've spoken to a couple of owners who've de-limited stock 8v's and all claim they rev nicely up to 7-8k (one even admitted running to 9k at times, but he wasn't a very believable sort). I wouldn't take one much over 6750 - 7k personally.

sounds like it already is, and if you do hit the limiter, just change bloody gear!!

thinking the exact same thing.. you shouldn't hit it.. then change gear

should change just before the rev limiter hits

loose power otherwise

as said.. peak power around 6.2k on a standard engine

theres really not much point in wasting your money in removing it as of yet
