are these worth any extra bhp or not just wondering as my 1.9 has one .......its a 122bhp cat model but seems a lot quicker than previous 115bhp 1.6 s is this because its more tourqueier [deffo wrong spelling ] or does the extra 7 bhp make that much difference

There is absolutely no way you will gain 7bhp from an 'induction kit'.

Personally I think you wont see any differences at all, possibly even a loss in power. The only advantage is you dont need to change the filters as often.

No , i don't fancy these induction kits nor did i found any performance gains , just f* up air/fuel mixture and kinda odd power delivery ... OE inlet system is very good and personally i wouldn't ditch it for any of these aftermarket/mushroom filters .. if aftermarket is what you want , id suggest panel filter ..

Never tried driving 1.6 car to be honest :) but 1.9's have noticeable torque nature yes , and as a plus , cat models have better engine management (Motronic) which makes them even nicer to drive than non cat ones B)

I don't think that's what he's suggesting if you re-read it.

Its always difficult to compare cars when thy're old and potentially worn, there's not that much to tell different between the 1.6 and 1.9 really but maybe the 1.6 might have been less than healthy??

K&Ns ? They make a nice noise, free up some space in the engine bay and like Mr Zappa says, need the filter changed less often.

If the car is otherwise unmodified, its difficult to justify the increase in insurance premium for very little gain though.

Not sure I agree with that one.... surely the more air you let in, the wider the AFM flap will open and up the fuelling won't it?

Its a problem on carb'd cars as they will just run weak if you let more air in. Used to have that fun on my old Minis, many moons ago.

I agree entirely though that there's nothing wrong with the standard set up.

Shape of the filter and shortened inlet tract creates suction turbulences within the AFM and makes the fap bounce/vibrate which in turn leads to erratic signal on certain revs , believe me i've tried and measured this whilst driving via lambda sensor ... but either without the lambda input the surging/popping exhaust tells the story for itself being a tad on a lean side .. tweaking the AFM spring tension makes it a little bit better but as for me , really not worth the bother ..

Also , i've noticed that the engine doesn't want to pull from the 1000 up to the limiter as freely as with the OE system , and it took quite a bit longer to reach top speed - refitted the OE system back and job done .. though my engine is not std. so it may be more "sensitive" ...

I've fitted them to a few cars. Cant say I really noticed much difference but I liked the sound. Sometimes thats all you need :D

Probably not, but there was no room for a standard airbox, so I had no choice but to use a come filter.

Aftermarket cone filters sound good, so you get more arse bhp, but the reality is on a lot of cars it just means sucking in hotter engine bay air, which will decrease performance a little.

Personally I would use the £70 to have your car properly tuned. However I too bought one many years ago and notice zero difference, other than noise.

Bit off topic but might make you laugh.

Me and my mate were at an airstrip a couple of years ago, (me in my 206 1.4 and my mate in his 1.2 corsa C.)

Repeatedly he was beating me off the line until I had a thought... I took the air intake hose off the airbox and put my sock over it, missing out the airfilter etc.

And hey presto I was beating my mate off the line and pretty much leaving him past 50mph.

Don't know what this proves, well Corsa's are sh!t but we all knew that.

On a similar note my exhaust came apart at the manifold/downpipe gasket while out for a spin last night as one of the springs & washers had come loose and fallen off. It sounded rough and farty as hell, but I swear it had a bit more grunt afterwards. I've never felt the steering wheel snatch (ooh-err) so much hitting the loud pedal after a gearchange.

I don't think they gain anything at all on the 205 as the AFM is as much a restriction as any other part of the intake.

I say this as my 1.9 made nearly 10 bhp more by fitting Motronic and the standard airbox and Motronic intake pipe (No AFM) than it did on Jetronic (i.e with AFM) and a K&N.

OK, now I'm listening.... I thought the 205 Motronic had an AFM? How would it run without?

Or do you mean you used the set up from another vehicle altogether?

Its not 205 Motronic, its 1.9 ZX Volcane non cat.

Bosch Motronic MP3.1, Map and Coilpack, TPS + TDC sensors.

there are a couple of threads about it, a google search of the forum for "MP3.1" should find them

Thanks WP.

Using the Volcane set up was suggested to me some time ago but the bits have never come up, as Midlife-pug commented a year ago, they seem to have a rocking horse poo quality about them.

Something I'll keep an eye out for.
