Recommended Posts

hi i've searched but i only found an answer for the be3. Im using a 406 turbo motor with mi flywheel and 1900 be1 gearbox, which clutch will suit this setup? Bit gutted as i bought the car with the engine already fitted but the lad fitted a 205 gti flywheel :D think this is the last piece i need to source now. Cheers in advance :D

Citroen BX 16v (is normal push type clutch) works ok.

I believe this is the same clutch as fitted to your 405 mi16 flywheel.

If it is a proper 1900 8v Be1 box, then it will have the early style clutch mechanism. As far as I know, this will not work with the Mi16 clutch kit, be it 405 Mi16 1905cc (88-92) or BX 16v. Do not buy the 405 Mi16 1998cc clutch (92-on) as this is different.

What I would do, is junk the 8v BE1 clutch mechanism, and replace with the BE3 style. This BE3 style release arm setup was also used on the BE1 Mi boxes. Confused yet?!

Once you have done that, you can use the BX 16v or 405 Mi16 (88-92) clutch with no problem.

Hopefully that is clear as mud.

cheers. Well i dunno what flywheel i picked up today. It was bolted to an 8v, has the trigger ring the same as the 406, but i can mount a standard gti clutch on it. Could this be from a late gti? My friend said the later ones had a flywheel pickup

It can't have been a runner with a GTI flywheel on that engine as there is no crank sensor. I have an Mi flywheel in mine but it is a BE3 box

My gearbox has BE1 stamped on it,reverse left and forward with cable lockout(though was never sure wether it was 1.9 box as it ran out of revs at 115mph).What is the early clutch mech?

Can confirm the clutch used was a BX 16v unit.
