Fuel Pump Doesn't Get Any Energy

Recommended Posts

Kamel6k

My car stoped the other day while driveng it, and never started again.

The relay near de ECU clicks, but the fuel pump doesn't get any energy. I've checked the wiring and it is ok...

Can anybody help me with this?

Thank's in advance.

the relay may switch, but is it getting power and is power getting to the fuse?

The fuel pump isn't getting any power. Do you mean there is a fuse after the relay and before the pump?

In the UK the fuse for the fuel pump is located at the far right hand side of the fuse board, number 14 I believe...

Might be different for yours as you live in Portugal.

It's not uncommon for old relay contacts to pit and hence no power, also check the earthing point at the rear behind the rear light. This is assuming that the obvious checks of fuse and such are made.

Cheked fuse and earth point. Thje relay clicks.

The mecanic say it could be the ECU. Is it possible?

Is this a Jetronic or Motronic car ? from the description (LHD car , "relay near the ECU") sounds like Motronic so in that case check the green relay in the engine bay , that one is injection supply relay and it's cross connected with the fuel pump relay in the same circuit ..

Change the relay.I have 2 relays that click but no power get's to the pump.

Have a look inside the relay if you can and you will see a short in the centre by one of the pins. If you can bridge the two contacts either side with some wire you should have the pump running.

regards

As above change the relay and check all associated fuses before testing the wiring. If it's neither of those try testing the pump itself with a direct feed from the battery to rule that out too, then try checking the resistance between the pump and earth. Had a similar problem on my Mi last year and it turned out to be a corroded earth wire from the pump.
