Battery Negative Connection Can't Remove!

Recommended Posts

Mic

This is a really stupid question, I needed to remove my battery to charge it up but couldn't get the negative terminal connection off. I have removed the battery by undoing the 2 negative cables at the other end but really want to remove the terminal end. I have put up some pictures of it, so if anyone can give me a clue it would really help. If I try to undo the nut the threaded bit turns as well and I can also turn the whole lot but that does not undo it!

If you can hacksaw a screwdriver slot into the top of the stud you should be able to hold it sufficiently to loosen the nut.

^^^^^

is probably your best bet cant really tell from the pics but is the whole in the midle of the stud round or does it take an allen key or torx bit

failing that it just looks like a cap to me to he whole lot should come off the battery with enough wiggling and pulling up or a set of molegrips on the cap to hold it while you undo it

That sounds like a plan, I will give it a try, would you belive the nut is also a nylon type locking one just to make it even more difficult :)

Yes, if it had been an ordinary nut you'd have had no trouble but then, hey, life would be boring without these little problems to solve. B)

Best of luck

Ok have now got it off. Clamped a set of mole grips on it a pulled like heck and it has now come off, now just need to remove the wires from it and get a proper terminal connector.

I hate those negative studs, they're frigging gash. They just slip over the top of the negative pole on the battery and then clamp in place by some poxy little tags around the edge that you squash inwards.. So as said above, you can twist and pull it off if you can't get the nut off.

If it we're me, I'd pull it off, then cut the cable off, then get a new clamp to replace it. One of those 'normal' clamps where you just stick the cable in the end, tighten it in place with a screw, then put the clamp on the battery pole and tighten it up with a 13mm nut.

theres a allen key slot on in the top of the stud to hold it from moving, if this rounds simply squeeze the lower cap with a pair of pilars/moles and undo the nut.
