Cambelt Trouble Please Help

Recommended Posts

stevem099

im changing my cambelt on my standard 8v gti 1.9 1989 it had really good service history which is why im abit stumped, haynes manual says about a cam thing on a locking nut, i presume this is on the bottom of the pulley bracket, (ie 2 slots go under the spring tensioner and the other goes to a cam set up, well mine engine dose not appear to have this cam unless im being stupid, one of the slots at the bottom is just waving about in the breeze so to speak, allowing you to push the tensioner cam side to side up and down, the belt was loose when i removed the covers but i thought it maybe an auto adjusting one when the engines running? ive been driving the car around since ive brought it and never had a problem but dont want to put it back knowing this peice is missing, any ideas were i can get one asap? im in kent ashford. also after removing the holding brakets on the metal water hose thats split as well, really need the car as im working on it at my parents and live in brighton,

many thanks

steve

Not exactly sure what your saying here but;

Your car will have the spring roller tensioner, I guess the one you mean is the one at the back ofthe block which releases the tension when you crank it through 90' after loosening the two 11mm nuts on the tensioner body & 16mm locking nut on the cam roller.

Please try to use a some punctuation when you post, makes it much easier to decifer what you are saying & will encourage more replies.

Graham.
