Wash Wipe Problem

Recommended Posts

pablo

Hopefully a simple one. When I pull the stalk to operate the wash wipe nothing happens. I get neither wipers nor washers. I thought this pointed to a duff stalk since both arent working but noticed last night when I pull the stalk the battery light dims just a little (car isnt running). So its obviously pulling a bit of current somewhere.

Maybe related but the intermittent wipers also dont work, but normal and fast do.

Any help appreciated cheers.

front wiper relay? easy to change, problems are most likely to be related. IMO.

wouldn't the washer motor still work if the relay was shagged? im not sure on this as electrics arnt my strong point!

a little while ago my wash wipe stopped working, and it wasnt the motor as i tested it to 12V, i was getting 8/9V at the motor. I bought a second hand wiper stalk which also didnt work so i initially put it down to the wiring between the stalk/motor. But as i had a spare stalk i decided to crack one open and found theres a lot of grease in there to lube the stalk as it runs over the 'clicking' part of the stalk. This grease had worked its way onto some of the terminals. With a good clean (i didnt have contact cleaner but that would be best) and put it back together it worked perfectly. I would imagine this to be a common problem that people commonly fix by replacing the stalk but it really is an easy fix!

As soon as i did it i thought i should have taken some pics and posted it on here. It is a fiddly job because of little springs etc but if you carefull its no probs.

hope this helps.

Mine has a similar problem.

Try pushing the stalk in (the way you would when you toot the horn with the other stalk) then pull back on the stalk. This is how I have to operate mine. I have tried swapping a couple of different units and thay all work in the same way. Weird!

My intermittant, normal and fast are working fine.

I must look into it one of these days to fix it properly...
