...what i think is the speedo cable i know the pic isnt brilliant as it was dark and i had to use the lights off my van but any help would be appreciated as its the only thing iv got to remove now. It goes into the top of the gearbox and then into the bulkhead

from the look of the pic that is the cable for the reverse gear. do you have to lift up then reverse next to first gear?

 

 

the speedo cable is at the back of the gearbox near the driveshaft, held in place with a black rubber pin that goes through the speedo drive housing.

oh right im not sure if i do as the car is at my house and im currently out. How do i remove it?

Just unscrew (like a nut , with 19mm wrench) the lower bit which goes into the gearbox and pull the cable out .. and it's a lift up reverse cable yes , not the speedo one ..
