Alternator Problems

Recommended Posts

M_R_205

At low rpms my alternator dosent seem to give out any cahrge, but it springs to life at about 2500rpm, the spade connector for the no charge waring light is non connected, could this be the problem??

Just want to cover all the possibilities be fore i get it reconed.

Cheers

Paul.

I think the alternator gets 'excited' through that spade connector, and if it isn't connected it needs to 'self excite' by spinning up to 3000ish rpm, as you have seen. If it self excites and works, and that cable is disconnected I'd be inclined to say to reconnect it and see what happens!

Yes , as said , the exciter wire must be connected  but if you'll still experience same issue with it connected it'll be voltage regulator on it's way out .. i had this just a while ago ..

Does the voltage stabilize when you rev the engine up ? i.e. lights go from dim to normal ?

Damir :D
