Painting A Plastic Valance

How would I go about painting a plastic valance ?

 

I have searched but all the guides I can find are for metal bodywork. I really need a step-by-step guide from cleaning to finishing.

 

It doesn't look like it's got any paint on it at all, just plain black plastic.

Not much difference really I don't think, same prep with sanding etc, just use plastic primer instead of regular primer or it will flake off. Then same primer prep and paint as you would anything else.

yes to give the paint better surface to stick to

All paint spraying needs a good key as said before, the better you prep the better the results.

Well I got a quick quote today from a local paint guy, just to see how much it would cost.

 

And I was surprised when he quoted £75 to do the valance, that sounds quite cheap to me ?

 

Do I need to ask him to laquer it too, or are the original parts just painted ?

Yes, lacquering would help the paint last longer and would match the car body work.

 

The more thin layers of lacquer the better the result.

Sorry for all the questions but Is he likely to be using 2 pack paint ?

 

Just need to make sure he's doing a proper job, although I guess he would if he's running a pro workshop.

any time i rub new plastics down i just use water and a grey scotch pad,plastic prime then the paint colour of car,what colour you wanting it painted,if the valence is new it wont take more than 1hr to pep and paint
