86 'd' 1600 Cti Running Very Rich / Different Hubs

Recommended Posts

After buying a 'running' project for restoration over the winter i have encountered a few problems that i'm not to sure about.

1. Yes, it did run, but was very rough, mainly because the clown had the firing order messed up, this leads me to think that he has tried to tune the engine this way. The plastic cover is hanging off the AFM and all the tamper proof caps have been removed. ?????? I've followed instructions from previous posts but we are still filling the garaged with dark smoke that smells of petrol. should i get another AFM or keep trying? not even sure if it the correct AFM.

2. When the new disc's arrived, fitting the first wasn't a problem, straight on. but the second disc is hitting the caliper mounting. discs were order via the reg number double checked with car details (86 'D' 1600cc 205 CTI), I have purchased two other hubs but these are the wrong ones also. (have approx 10 -15mm less offset). are the disc's wrong or are the new hubs wrong.

I'm completely stumped with both problems any help would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Matt

1. Correct AFM will end in "056", ECU will end "340" and the injectors should be blue. If that's OK, then a known good AFM would probably be a good starting point if it looks like that one has been monkeyed around with and it is overfuelling enough to chuck out black smoke.

2. Sounds like you've got 1.6 GTi disks and base model hubs - 1.6 GTi hubs have about 10mm more offset (ie spacing the wheel outwards). Either get some 1.6 GTi hubs, or use base model hubs and 1.9 GTi disks.

thanks.

got the correct AFM.

Daft question, where is the ecu? last 205 went straight to mi16 on carbs, so ecu's etc. isl new to me

will check the ecu and injectors asap.

the AFM has defo been played with, anyone know what the original setting is, might be able to reset and go from there.

would 1.9 hubs work with the discs i've already bought and fitted to one side, hense can't return.

cheers

Fuelling sounds very similar to my car when I first got it, no amount of buggering about with all sorts would stop the overfuelling, tried an ebay special AFM and straight away the difference was noticeable, and with a bit of setting up spot on. I personally have never found the need to take the cap off an AFM, if it is working as it should, it should not need tampering with.
