405 T16 Coupe

I was always under the impression that only 2 405 Coupe's were built purely for racing, but I was googling for some wallpaper images of the pike's peak car and stumbled across these pics, which suggests there may have been a road going version. Were there any like this sold for use on the road, or is it just a press photo?

I've seen a few car mags from the 80s that feature pics of a 405 coupe but it was never put into production. Might weld my back doors up and create my own.

 

EDIT: And as someone will no doubt mention the floor pan is based on 205 T16 anyway so it's not really a 405.

205 Grande Raid floorpan which a lot were chopped up to make the ZX Dakars when PSA decided to promote a different brand.

 

That one used to be in the Peugeot museum I think it is still in one in France somewhere but was a mockup (hence very dark windows). It has T16 Evo2 Tarmac wheels on, the best wheels ever for a 205 and also the rarest.

It's a shame it never went into full production, it's a fantastic looking machine! I've only been fortunate enough to see the Camel painted one in the flesh, but even in that horrible off-yellow colour it looked great!

I used to have two of these many years ago, one with the blue/white and one with the yellow colour scheme. I reallly didnt know how lucky i was at the time. Spent many a hour ranting them around my own personal rally (Scalexrtic!)track.
