well the emissions got me after all that git at vosa said about it only needing a pre cat test it didnt .the code in the book is that dkz someone said on here .... fast idle .370 limit .300 lambda 1.093 limit 1.030 2nd fast idle .330 and lambda 1.056 doesnt sound much out but he says i,ll need a cat on to lower them ..

not enough clearance between bump stops , says remove them! bush on the rear shock and not damping enough even though he says it isnt moving enough to check because lowered ,a, so i need 2 rear shocks and a cat put in ,,wheres cheapest folks? cheers very strange given that cars only done 60 miles since last mot even tough it was 2 years ago

I know that there is a central database and that your fail has been recorded at VOSA but do you have to go back to the same MOT Station for a re-test? I've found that some testers are more sympathetic than others particularly when Classic cars and low annual mileages are involved. They'll not pass anything that is dangerous but will use their loaf and allow a bit of latitude and discretion where needed. That's my experience anyway.

From those readings it sounds like you will also need a lambda sensor. The lambda readings have to be between something like 0.970 and 1.030, this test basically is to ensure the closed loop fuelling is working correctly.

With this sorted you may then find the CO readings also drop into spec, worth a try before you lay out for a new cat anyway.

One or two points I don't understand.

If the car was never fitted with a cat then it won't need one now and the emissions should be met with a properly tuned and set up engine.

In my experience coming from kit cars and SVA etc, VOSA staff are very good at their job and their interpretation of the regulations should be definitive and pre-cat emissions is all that is needed.

Is it possible that your tester has not interpreted the regulations correctly?

Are you using the same test station that previously passed it?

no the previous test station to far away wished i,d made the journey though now .. it must have had a cat originally with it having a lambda on it just has a sports exhaust on now though, the tester rung vosa when i showed him the email vosa had sent and they said i mustnt have give enough info [reg chassis and engine no] ,,,, all thats in that emission book is the dkz code .. just wondering if i ruined it by putting that inj cleaner in with my fuel should you wait till the fuels been used up before expecting lower emmisions, to late now though

DKZ is the later engine, would have originally had a cat fitted plus lambda, therefore it must pass the cat spec emissions test.

But if the car's pre-cat the age/type of engine's irrelevent, no?

Or is it a very late car?

As far as I was aware, the car does not NEED a cat for the MOT because of the age of the car. But, because the car WAS fitted with one, it then becomes part of the test. If you dont have one, it will fail.

if it was tested 2 years ago and only did 60 odd miles i assume its got plenty of fresh petrol as old fuel doesnt burn cleanly even just 6 month old makes em run dirty!
