Checking The Version / Type Etc

Recommended Posts

Para

Hi there,

Poland is very specific country, almost all of the 205s which we have here were bought from abroad. Because of the communism through years our border was closed and only cars which were available were Russian or Polish :/ The 205s which are here were brought on ferries, trucks, boxes etc... We had a system years ago which allowed to bring a car much cheaper if car was in parts... So people were buying cars, taking them apart, bringing them to Poland and putting them together just to save some money... How horrible and devastating is this for cars !!

So, through years of replying on our forum I've seen such a experiments like Griffe Diesel, 5 door GTIs or 1983 GTI 1.9 with new black dash / ABS / air condition etc...

I was wondering is there any way of checking what model, year, version, extras 205s had by using for example VIN number. I'm checking via Peugeot Servicebox but that is giving me only few information. Is it possible to track down what was the car originally soon after leaving the factory ???

Thanks for help,

Mike

Hi Para,

the 205 is pretty to old to get much info out of the VIN.

You get just:

3 or 5 doors,

Engine,

Gearbox auto or manuel,

Phase 1 (VF3741..) or 2 (VF315A...),

thats all.

VF320CDF401974136 is the full number --- it shows in servicebox that this is "Special Car" with Auto gearbox .. .1.9 XU9, 3d , mettallic paint , which looks like GTI to me...

Any more help about this VIN number ?

20CDF4 could be an eurostyle Gentry with Auto.

Spec:

Sorrentogreenmet. or Mayfairmet. (beige)

Leather Black or beige depending on the color outside

Sunroof

ABS

Powersteering

looks similar to a GTI

Hmmm I thought Gentry is 20DDF2 ? I'm not sure the car is Gentry as has no sunroof,

Using servicebox shows Automatic Gearbox and owner says he have manual :blush: It's a complete mess

The car was described by owner as:

non metallic (white), 1989, power steering, non sunroof, old style rear lights, old gearbox with reverse as 1st gear.

20DDF2

20D = Cariolet

DF2 = 1,9 102HP and manuel gearbox

But, I`m not sure if all Gentrys had sunroof! Where did you buy your car, is it from Germany?

Mayby someone just used the Gentry papers to "legalise" another shell :blush:

I love how it says 'version' on the plate, instead of 'mark' or 'phase'.

It makes me feel like im driving a piece of futuristic software :blush:

That's my friends car. He asked me for help to identify the proper version... It's harder then I thought
