Skip Brown Head And Cam

Recommended Posts

Dogboy

hi all

Since buying my 205 GTi off a good friend a couple years ago, ive had a spare head with cam in my garage.

This year ive decided over the next couple of months to go for some more power and set to a plan to get the spare head polished/skimmed etc. and a new Road Cam for more grunt. Upon looking over the Head i noticed a code inprinted on the head and the cam, which i discovered to be codes from Skip Brown engines.

I rang up Skip Brown who were really helpful and informed me that basically i was in luck as it was already a 'fast road' head, polished/skimmed/balanced and the cam was a 'fast road' one also. I was just wondering if anyone had more information for me in terms of the Cam and its spec? I plan to clean up the head and fit it without any more work onto it. However if anyone has any information about the spec of the Cam i would be very keen to hear. It will also make it easier when the car is setup on the Carbs again if the company setting it up know abit more about the spec of the cam

many thanks in advance.

Phil

Also the SBC fast road heads usually have stainless valves too.

I think that is commonly know as 'good luck' or a 'find'. If the bottom end of the engine you are bolting it to is good then the head/cam is good for 130ish at the wheels before fitting carbs. Not sure what you'll get with. Lovely and grunty too, not at all peaky.

driven one of these, was on standard injection albeit tweaked to cope, very nice engine and around the 130 atw I believe it was too.

Probably parts of their "roadspeed" fast road conversion.

well done that man ;)

i've not read that before. makes me proud to think that that engine is in my 309 gti, and has been for about 10 years, but only covered about 15k

i took the car to skips about 3 years ago after it had been stood about 6 years, paul changed all the necessaries and set it up on the rollers, and it was pulling 134bhp@wheels i was told.

it'll only be a few months before it'll be road legal, and I CAN'T WAIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I used to have one of these, sold it to a friend of my Dads, so I know where it is :D

Really did pull beautifully, lovely drive, smooth power delivery, at the low end too. Kinda miss it, 16 valves are fun but I miss the low end torque.

Can. Worms. :)

Yeah, Feb's is a Roadspeed spec (camber, engine etc) Gti"S". I had a good look at it a few years ago.

How much low end torque do you need? Mine will pull in 5th gear from 30 (1600 rpm) all the way to max speed...

Ive had one of the SBC roadspeed engines in the 205 , I really liked it and the cam in mine had RS4 stanped in the dizzy end .Took some mighty big shims to set it up and it drove lovely , wnet miles better on carbs and gave 133 ATW when Paul set it up for me ...

I really like Skips and have been going there foe 20 years on and off ..

interesting article link put up, thanks for that made for very interesting reading.

Well fingers crossed after a cleanup and 'service' the head and cam should do very well alongside my 45's.

thanks for all the info

unless your carbs are balanced and set up correctly, the injection is very reliable :)
