The Price Of A Loom

Recommended Posts

swordfish210

Hi, i've been offered a loom from a 205 Trio that is being broken on ebay to replace my fried one in the XT. The people breaking it have said they want £90 for it delivered and i thought this seemed a bit excessive. Any thoughts otherwise?

Thats the other thing i was worried about, paying that much and finding bits chopped out of it.

which bit do you need? can;t be that much left inside your car so tracing a fault should be difficult, fuseboards themselves often cause silly problems.

Well the loom in the car currently has been on fire about 3 times now and it's presenting faults of; no brake lights, no reverse light, no heater, no rev counter, no water temp gauge, no indicators, no wipers. Basically the only thing working is the coil.

I'm tired of trying to fix this loom and it's got so many useless wires in it i would rather get a new complete loom and cut out what i dont need on the bench then i can have a minamalist loom that i can splice my DTA in to. Hopefully i can get rid of the nasty fuse/relay board while i'm at it and make a new one.

I'd get down to a scrapper, I'm sure you'd get a loom for much less than £90, plus you can sort out what comes from where, how its routed etc.

I've got the loom that goes from the fusebox to the instruments from a '93 CJ, but its only a basic one ie no rev counter or water temp gauge if that any good to you.

As an aside I used the loom from an auto and the instrument panel so I could have a water temp gauge and it was all plug an play, well apart spending ages trying to figure out what the leftover plug was for, and everything worked. It was for the heated back window. Doh

Tom: i would go to the scrappers and get one but i'm pretty pressed for time atm and being bogged down with Uni coursework. I've got 5 assignments to do by the end of the month

Mr Exe: Thanks but i really want one for the whole car so i can pick and choose what bits i do and don't need.

In that case, and 100% not being a condescending tw@, (been there and done it myself, fannying about with my then road car Mini whilst University was beckoning) I'd suggest leaving the track car alone for a week or two and use the daily smoker. In my final year at Uni I got a 405 Mi16 which believe it or not was a really good move, as compared to the Mini it needed very little maintenance. You only get one shot at the uni coursework so concentrate on that, you can always come back to the car in a few weeks when you've a bit more time.

I dont think you're being condecending. I'm quite happy to leave the 205 in the garage for now (it's too cold to drive it anyway) and drive the 306 around (250 miles to £20 of diesel FTW  ) I just fancied having a loom in my bedroom for a bit of picking when the coursework starts to melt my brain
