Quicksilver 106 Engine Gone Bang In A Big Way

Recommended Posts

djinuk

Ok, last night, very cold, car very cold..

car gets abuse as it pulls off, there is a bang , engine locks, and underneath there is a small pool of oil, about a cap full.

Should i expect to see a conrod hanging out the side of the engine?

have you checked your driveshafts? I know a few people who have snapped or damaged driveshafts by giving 106's abuse.

just a thought.......

ah i forgot to mention i whipped the cambelt top cover off and it looked ok.

Would a snapped timing belt leave oil ?

I will know for sure tonight i guess, just wanted a good idea of what im going to see.

we dont actually know :S. the engine has had a very hard life from the previous owner, been well serviced in the whole few months ive had it.

nah it will be a straight 8v replacment as its not my car and the gf dosent need anything super quick .

i wonder if the neck of the rod snapped, they are pretty thin and with hard use does not help. thats my biggest concerns when running these weaker bottom ends  . can i ask the mileage of the motor?

I changed three 8v tu engines last year one alloy block and two iron. Two of them had rod failer (bolts) and one broke the gudgen pin out of the piston!

All std engines but i know the owners did drive them hard so this clearly takes its toll
