Tu3s Inlet Valves

Recommended Posts

MikeM

Having removed the head in preparation for the new cam I have struck a problem!

I have removed the exhaust valves no problem, however the inlet valves are not willing to come out. The valve stem will pull through the guide but then stops when it gets to the indent that the collet sits in. I have measured the stems and they read 6.98mm however at the bit that poses the problem it reads 7.01. I have come accross a similar problem before on my trials motorbike where the rod that actuates the piston in the brake mastercylinder had been vibrating, causing the piston to mushroom. The cure for this was to sand down the piston as a temporary fix.

I am going to sand down the valves a bit to see of this will allow there removal, just thought it was a bit strange how all 4 were like this! Can anybody shed any light on this problem?

Cheers

Sandy

The collet grooves get a ridge on the edge. You need to rub the ridge off carefully with a bit of grinding stone, wipe away the debris (to avoid scratching the guide) and then it'll pull through. Don't force it, you'll muller the guide.
