Urgent Help Needed

Hi guys, im very new to the 205 scene. i bought a 1.9 gti to project as my track car. it wasnt running but after tinkering around i found he had the afm the wrong way round. I also noticed that the water pump was leaking. bummer!!!Anyway, i proceeded to change the water pump as well as cambelt seeing as u have to take it off anyway. I changed this all fine with timing nearly spot on. But the issue i have now is since doing this, i have no electics on the car. battery is fine but the is power going to the starter motor, engine doesnt fire tho as no spark. No dash lights, indicators, headlights, horn, nothing. the only things that work are interior light and starter motor. all fuses are fine and seems like power is going into the fuse board but not out.

The only thing i can think of is, when i first started the cambelt, i was told to jack the engine up to get the engine mount off then to lower it to get easier access to the belt an tensioner. I realised that this wasnt needed once i had proceeded to lower the engine.

i have checked the earths and the main ones to the gearbox seem to be in tact.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!

but nor would the engine earth and you checked that....

I'd be checking everything 93 times. I'd be suprised if any of us can guess through the internet.

From memory, as its too damned cold out..... there's a cable runs between the distributor and the coil with a connector half way along it. It wouldn't cause half your problems but worth checking it didn't pull apart when moving the engine about.

Brown multiplug located on top of the gearbox sounds a likely cause or earths located near the headlights ?

Sounds as if you may have somehow disturbed the connection from the battery to the shunt box on the slam panel - although it's on the nopposite side of the car

Ditto.

Follow your positive battery terminal lead to a black box the size of a fag packet. Once you've located it, remove your battery earth lead (to save any nasty sparkage) and remove that black (shunt) box, and clean up all of the terminals.

This shunt box distributes permanent live power to many circuits, and your lights/horn are on this, as you know you can turn them on with the ignition off. It won't do any harm to do this, and I agree with Steve that this is the likely fault, or at least one of several perhaps.
