Engine Bay Queries...

Recommended Posts

fatony1

Im stripping my engine bay down for a repaint/GTI6 engine transplant, and there are a few bits im unsure if i need to keep/refit. I've put pics of these bits below, im just wondering if anyone can tell me if they are needed or not?

First of all this plastic shield under the metal water pipe. Its pretty cracked/broken, and i guess its there to protect the bottom pulley but i've seen pics of lots of 205's without it, is it neccessary?

Next this metal heat shield that fits on the steering rack. It covers the part of the rack where the steering colum connects, again its pretty mullered, is it needed?

Last of all is this mounting bracket. I can't for the life of me remember what it holds? Ill chop it off if its not essental! :D Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

1. Wont stop the car from working, but will protect 'down there'

2. Personally still have it, but the same as the above really, will protect but no neccesary.

3. Is the coil and ign amp holder on the 8v, dont know if its needed for this conversion but I dont think, will let someone else confirm.

3. Does make a handy bracket to hold the ecu/relay or earth.

The middle item is there to protect a rubber bush from heat damage. When that bush perishes/hardens/cracks it makes gear changes crap.

I'd keep that one.

As Cameron said: the plastic panel inside the arch stops crap getting in towards the crank pulley, which is perhaps a good idea.

without the black plastic on rainy days your pulley will spin and the alternator will stay :-)

pretty bad idea to leave it out, especially in england ;-p

In theory perhaps but I don't remember having one fitted to any of the 205s I'm responsible for in the last 10+ years and I have had no issues with alternator pulleys in the wet.

:D

It's because Ed's avatar seems similar to Cam's new one. Sorry.

But Cam probably did say it, once upon a time.

No 3: I used it to mount the inertia switch (if you choose to keep it)
