Is There Anything Wrong With My Car?

I've been reading several threads in regards to needle position on all the guages trying to ascertain what exactlyis normal!!

Mine, I don't think corresponds to anything normal so I want to check with you guys if I may.

Firstly, the temp guage!

Well, its take an age to warm up as per the time of year but when it does it goes past halfway and moves, slowly between the last white line and second to last white line on the upper end of the guage. Its never gone past the white line and headed into the red. Does this sound correct?

Next would be the oil pressure.

Its very high when cold as you would expect, around 2/3 to 3/4's. When fully warm (oil temp guage approx a 3rd of the way up) at idle (850rpm) it sits on the first white line, not actually in the red but very near. The highest it registers when fully warm is about halfway, maybe a teeny bit lower when over 4000rpm. Sounds ok? Never had the light on so I'm not too worried...

Fuel guage.

Goes down too quickly... :)

Oil temp guage.

About a 3rd of the way up when fully warm.

Sound good?

Cheers in advance for your feedback!!

all sounds perfectly fine.

how many miles does it do per gallon do you think?

if you don't know, brim it, drive as normal, brim again and see how many gallons that is to how many miles.

That sounds about right for a good engine, when cold my GTI-6 engine burys the needle at max, so much so, I am scared to blow up the oil filter!

The 1.6 was a bit less than yours but it was pretty tired.

Fuel gauge seems quite random, ie it doesnt move for about 80 miles, then drops like a stone. then seems to run for ages on empty

:)

Mpg? Gawd knows!!! I tend to measure it in miles per tenner, or now per ten litres after fuel went past a £1 per litre.

On that basis I get around 55 miles per litre.

Thanks for the replies though chaps, you've put my mind at rest!!

55 miles for £10 is quite decent to be honest. I get about 90 from 10 litres on a motorway treck, or about 45-50 if its being hooned arround b roads...
