Help With New Gti

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

ive done lots of reading on this website and its been very helpful.

i have a few questions, im trying to find out what work has been done to my new car (guy i brought it from was unsure) its a 1989 1.9

it feels like its been lowered at the rear which i understand is a torsion bar set up, is there a way of checking this i.e mesurments, so i can tell,

also theres a sensor cable tied up behind the rad, with looks abit like a mi16 crank sensor (only picture ive seen on here that it looks like however its got some aftermarket cone on it so could it be part of the standard air intake system?) also my car has yellow injectors is this correct?

many thanks

steve

Tom Fenton

If you search on here, somewhere there are some measurements of standard ride height. However it is normal for as standard the front to look very high, and the rear to sit slightly lower.

Metal cylinder near rad sounds like the resistor for either the slow speed of the rad fans, or the dim-dip resistor for the headlights. It should sit in a clip but these have commonly disintegrated leaving the resistor either cable tied or hanging down somewhere.

Yellow injectors is correct for a 1900.

if your's is an mi, and is out of a bx it may well have lots of loom to spare. including a couple of connectors.

hope this helps
