Help Wont Run

right here goes i have an mi16 engine in a 205 on gsxr itbs running on megasquirt.it was running about a week ago then i left if for a couple of days now ive gone back to it .fired up ok then cut out after about 5minutes and wouldnt go again .i thought it was out of petrol so i put a tenner in.

cranked over but still nothing it has fuel pump is running .it has a spark ive checked the ford wasted spark coilpack aand the resistance has come back ok on primary and secondary.

ive checked the injectors witch was what i thought was the problem as there was no restiance but that was a dodgy multimeter now there ok .

cas is ok well its sending a signal to the ecu so the rpm readings look ok

the injectors and coil have power going to them

ive allso checked the timing today took the belt off and put it back on to be 100 percent sure its ok as the exhaust cam was about half a tooth out well the pin was on an angle

earths look ok all clean going to top of gearbox and battery negative on body

i havnt changed the map since it was running ive only tried altering the timing settings

i will do a compression test tommorow to see if that could be the problem

if i press the throttle it pops out of the inlet and now an again it`l backfire

anyone any ideas of what i could try next thanks for any help

Well if you have tinkered with ignition timing, that would be my first port of call... do you have a saved map?

i can email a msq if some one would like to look over it cheers for the help

can anyone tell me if the pressure reg on a standard mi16 is the same as the 1.9 8v or 1.6 or any other of the pug range thanks

right ive finnaly done a compression test B)

cylinder 1 -160pis

cylinder 2-160 psi

cylinder 3-155 psi

cylinder 4 -190 psi

that is bad right due to a tired engine maybe ?

would it stop it from running though t

allso ive checked the pressure reg .well i clamped the return up all it did was make the pump noisy so i think thats all right any one got any ideas

i had this exact same problem with my setup originally, i had it running then played with the trigger angle to keep it running nice....big mistake B)

have you tried reloading the msq is sent to you?, did you adjust the ve table at all?

it gotta be spark related with the backfires and all. have you checked the timing with a light?

how is the coil pack mounted? i found that mine was alot better with the coil itself earthed (i made up a harness that earthed through all four mounting points to the engine block)

have you checked the plugs? i found yesterday when it wouldn't start the plugs were black from overfueling. after i cleaned them it was ok.

failing that is it the battery not fully charged or too cold?

when you say partial signal from the cas what do you mean? its it reading a steady rpm?

yes i defintly think its the spark timing aswell .im gona try a borrow another coil tommorow .

i did check the plugs and they were black so i gave them a clean .the coil is mounted on a steel bracket wich mounts to the car i did earth it to the enging with some jump leads but didnt do much.

i will make some earth leads to go the the engine to be 100 percent though .ill give your map ago .ive had the battery on charge. its cranking and got power everywhere ok

my money is on the coil now . :) even though the resistance is ok

well fingers crossed

have you got spark though on all cyl?

if its backfiring it must have some sort of spark, i brought a set of those plug light things for halfrauds which go on each plug between the leads and spark when there is a spark, handy little gadgets those are. you can then see how consistent the spark is.

i can lend them to you if you want?
