Quickshift Confusion

Recommended Posts

Bigtimmy

Hi everyone,

Hope everyones xmas was good.

I have spent some time on tinternet looking for some advice on quickshifts.

I am using a standard BE3 1.9 box and am uprating the linkages to rose jointed ones which will reduce the play in the change dramatically so I'm led to believe!

The next thing I'd like to do (whilst I'm messing about down there) is to shorten the shift somewhat, and this is where I am getting confused and need a bit of guidance from you guys on here.

So from what I can understand you can shorten the short side of the L shaped selector on the subframe, or you can mess around with the gear stick itself making it longer / shorter?

I am guessing the modification of the L shaped lever is the simplest, but do I need to do this in conjunction with the actual gear stick, that what is confusing me.

From your experiences what is the best option, shortened L shaped lever at £30 or new modified gear stick at £65???

Thoughts please so I can get it ticked off on the list of things to do!!

Cheers :)

You can just shorten the L shaped lever. I personally prefer the shorten the short side method. You can get the balljoint to do this yourself from Miles, or even just cut and weld it up.

I have both methods, the L shaped lever and gearstick but this is because I also lengthened the gearstick to be close to the steering wheel, wouldn't really advise this as unless you lengthen the gearstick is the throw will be way to short and you'll miss gears.

I've always shortened the L bracket on my 205's and never had any issues, i generally cut around 17mm out and weld it back together.

Miles

Don;t bother in my eye's, With good rods and a bush in the quadrant the change is fine, Making it shorter just buggers it up.

Again the rose jointed Rods are fine for competition car's but from the experance I;ve had on mine just the Metal cup type do just as good as job and can be fitted in Minutes instead of hours with the rose jointed one.

You may also consider lengthen the long side of the L-plate, this may allow you to go back to the original anytime and have greater adjustability.
