Engine Swap

can i take an engine out of 1 205 1.9 gti and put it into another or will i have ignition problems or any problems with the ecu? sorry if its a noob question but i dont generally work on cars cars with an ecu or petrol lol as iv owned 7 306 dts lol

Providing both are non-CAT models, you can just swap the engines straight over - the ECU on GTi's is very primative compared to modern ECU's.

 

Swapping a CAT engine to a non-CAT, or vice-versa, is fractionally more involved but still easy enough.

 

There are some slight differences between early and late non-CAT engines such as the position of the coil and ECU temp sensors, but that's just a matter of swapping the various parts over or extending the wiring.

not 100% if the new 1 is cat or not but mine has no cat anyway. If this has got a cat exactly what extra work is needed?
