Tran-x Setup Help

Recommended Posts

thomasrally

Hi all

The tran-x in our gravel spec 205 is currently setup in the lightweight setting and I *think* with 45/45 ramp angles and we're seriously looking now to change it too fully interlevered with 45/45 ramp angles but slightly concerned the steering will be too heavy without PAS?

Do you reckon the above ramp angles and fully interlevered would be most suitable for gravel use?

Just in the process of deciding between a Quaife ATB or a Tran-x and the only thing that bothers me is the steering weight issue with no PAS.My car is for road rallying so predominantly tarmac, what is yours like on tarmac on the light setting?

Totally fine on tarmac at lightweight setting so you'd have no issues there.

My biggest concern is how much heavier the steering wouod become going from lightweight to fully interlevered, as long as its drivable in the woods I'd be happy.

Ok thanks.

From what ive read the higher the setting the harder the steering is to turn, and if you do this you really need power steering.

Been told this off a top british rally driver:

The key with the diffs is to measure preload with one wheel off the ground ideally you want this above 40nm. If its below the diff can get snatchy if its alot higher the car wont turn in.

I am a skinny fecker and our tran X is fully interleaved 45/45 and I can still survive track days in it. No dramas. I think people who say it is impossible generally haven't driven one, or have just manoevered a car with one(the only time they are heavy ish) Once you are moving, they are fine even on their harshes setting.

After a trackday, I am a bit tired, but not 'arm tired.'

No PAS.

In my opinion and from experience of two Cars with tranx diffs . My Gp A 106 stage car , and My 205 road rally car

On the gravel , there will be no problem with no PAS . Some times it better without ( ihad switchable on the 106 due to the electric pump)

On twisty tarmac , its a different matter .

When the PAS went down on my road rally car , it was bloody hard work . My view on this is if you are having to work too hard on the steering , then you are not concentrating enough on going faster .

Single venue stages are more like a track day / race . generally wider tracks , with longer straights where you can set up a car for the few tight bits that there are.

However I don't have the settings that i used in either . But the 106 was tight and would drive a short way with one shaft snapped .

not a true comparison Craig, as you were fighting against the inoperative PAS components as well as the diff!

Fair point .

I'd still want PAS though ( for tarmac) .
