Gti 6 Remote Oil Filter?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

I've just removed the 1.9 8V from my 205 and as it's a power steering model, it has a remote oil filter setup, here is a pic of it:

Is it worth removing this setup and installing it on the GTI6 engine that's going in there? If anything will it keep the filter away from the hot radiator and help with oil temp?

Thanks

like 10mm further away from the radiator I wouldn't bother, just something else to be a possible leak.

it makes oil changed a doddle, I'd swap it across myself.

you will need to keep that gearbox or at least the casing, or make a bracket to fit whichever gearbox you want to use as not that many had those holes cast and tapped into them.

Thought it might make oil change a bit easier. Also does the angle the '6 engine sits at make the factory filter sit very close to the radiator? I assume in a 306 this isn't a problem as everything has a lot more room. Ill be keeping the gearbox yes so already have the bracket

It all depends on what you do with your rad really.

As long as you do the engine mounts properly (i.e. no 'silly' extended bottom mounts to avoid M/C clearance) then Mi/S16 and GTI6 oil filters will sit in the same place. So the depending factor is how you tilt/space your radiator forward, which you usually need to do to get inlet manifold clearance.

You could be looking at anything from it touching the rad fins to about 10mm clearance; so it's going to be close anyway, which means gloves are a good idea for filter changes as rad fin cuts are worse than paper cuts.

Naturally then, the remote filter is a cool solution, although as Ed says, it's more to go wrong.

As above the engine is the std position is the same position as the old 1.9 engine, Only with the Head Exchanger's on the block do they get close
