Catalyst Removed , What Bhp

with a sport exhaust on will it be back up to 130 or is it true its a low compression engine , is the ignition retarded also can you advance this when the catalyst is removed . would mine of definitely had a catalyst seen as theres a lambda or would some just of had a lambda on there own?

No idea, But I remeber a test years ago that when the CAT was removed the car produced less power,

Most 1.9's don;t make 130 bhp anyway so as I always say the 123 ish the CAT GTi's had more more of a true figure

The ignition is all controled by the ECU

A little bit better throttle response and more noise, but definitely not up to 130 bhp as the C/R is lower (9.2:1 vs 9.6:1 for Jetronic engines).

When i removed the Cat from my Gentry the bhp definitely dropped. It went from being a nippy car to quite sluggish in comparison.

 

But then maybe the much thinner pipe used by the mechanic caused some restriction in flow.

If the CAT is clogged up (like it can easily be after 20 years of use), then there will probably be some gain in bhp by removing it :rolleyes:.

i cut mine out when i relpaced the exhaust and i havent noticed any difference in power. Pass the mot test as well lol
