AFAIK its actually August 93, my January 93 registered 309 doesn't have a cat.

but, as long as it passes the emissions test it doesn't have to have a cat present.

The reg date changes the actual emissions test limits. Later car have it harder, hense why they have lambda sensor to control the emissions. The change over date is some point in 1992, as mine is early 1992 and goes through the older test, but I expect your car is the newer test as its september. I've had to get them to look it up before with my car as they get confused as its got a wideband stuck in it now....

EU legislation requiring all new cars to have a Catalytic Converter commenced on 1st January 1993, it affected the K suffix registration cars as it was part way through this year.

MOT testing changes based on 1st August 1992, however, MOT testers use this flow chart http://www.motuk.co.uk/images/7.3page10.pdf

This gives a bit of leniency on cars registered between 1992/1994 and allows the use of the older 1200ppm limit for HC.

Same rules just extended to July 1995

And that there is the exact reason why my early 1995 FTO passes an MOT emissions test despite having a DECAT on it. Only the later FTO models from 1999-2001 are officially on the MOT database as they are the official UK ones from Mitsi. As mine is a 1995 model it comes under not being an "exact match".

However, my 205 is the 14th to last made UK 205 GTi and its on a L plate. So needs its CAT. Thankfully I have a Sports CAT on it.

However, if you can prove you have a non-cat era engine in a cat-required car, it gets tested according to which is the oldest!

this sounds not good news to me then as a sept registered car seems augusts the cut off point so they,ll find my model in the book and have lower limits for it to reach , what do sport cats look like might i have one of these on it was last tested in nov 06 till 07 but has only covered 60 miles since then so it must have passed back then with this exhaust on.

My Rallye is on a K plate, registered late 1992, december time I think. There was some concern about it at the MOT centre but worked out ok!?

Now according to my MOT tester it only has to pass cat emissions testing if the car was registered after some point in 1995 (august I believe) my very late '92 car was tested as a pre cat car (even though it does have one) and flew through. My tester runs a government MOT testing station rather than a garage so I'd hope he was right!!

End July 1995 is the cut off for cars without specific emissions data.
