Mi16 Starter Alternatives?

Am i right in saying that any petrol XU9/XU10 starter will be ok to use on the Mi?

Yes.

 

The starters from later cars like the 306/406 are a good choice as they're a better design - more compact and lighter, and more powerful too, the diesel starters doubly so.

Hmmm.. Even the diesel one fits? Ive got a derv one knocking about from my old 306 D Turbo that uses a different gear to mine...

The old XUD 306 D turbo ones I've seen are often the big heavy lumps like the original 205 GTI one, one from a later 306, 405/6 is better but you need to check before you buy to make sure its the rigth size.
