Weld a large bolt onto it. Grind off chrome plating first.

The way I do it is to tighten up all the other wheel nuts as tight as possible and then give the locking one a whack or two with a hammer, then hammer on an undersized socket (normally a 17mm) and then just undo it. So far it has always worked for me.

Really depends on the style, most of the usual styles of bolt i've managed to knock on a smaller socket as said, or chisel them out, or even drill them out as i've had to do with the last couple now. Post pics of it?

you can get sockets from halfords, they are reverse threaded on the inside and when you screw them anticlockwise over the locknut they get tighter and eventually crack it loose.

not suitable for all locknuts tho, but saved me when my elise locknut key crumbled in my hands.

Screw extractors? They're too bulky in my experience to go over most types of wheel bolt.

Does that 'gator grip socket work on locking wheel nuts?

I have a cheap, nasty, made in Taiwan 14mm socket that has been hammered onto numerous sets of Peugeot dealer fit locking bolts and hasn't failed me yet.

As Baz has said the technique depends on the style of bolthead, but Goliaths tip about slightly over-tightening the normal bolts is always worth doing, I was able to undo a locking bolt by hand once after tightening the rest up!

Last time I had this problem an air chisel did the business.

A bit of heat helps too if you can, obviously try and concentrate it though so to limit damage to the wheel.

That's what i use normally and has done 5-6 without issue, always does the job!! Only the last couple of times, both on Goodwoods, they were the same type but not OE bolts, and proved to be a right struggle, the first one i had Dad drill out with a set of some expensive HSS bits, and the most recent he started to do the same last weekend, after i'd had the usual attack on it, drilled it a little but then thought he'd have a bash at it with a chisel, and strangely it came undone, despite me trying everything as usual a few weeks before! :)

Not sure what make of locking nut it is, but if it's McGard you can e-mail them a photo of the bolt and they can send you a new key out.

Its worth adding that I have a spare short extension bar that I fit to the 14mm socket and its this that I hammer against. The end of the extension bar mushrooms really badly and its socket goes from 3/8" to looking more like 1/4" but once its hammered on I remove the mangled extension bar from the 14mm socket and fit an undamaged extension to actually undo it.

Yes too true,

I had this once and done what Goliath has said.

hi, not had time to get to the garage to take photos of the locking nut yet, when i do get a minute i'll post a photo of the nut, with a bit of luck it might be one of the types where you can email the company for a replacment, if not i'll try getting a heat gun on the locking bolt and tightening the other bolts and then loosening the locking bolt with an undersized socket with an extension bar as suggested as this sounds like the cheapist and least destructive method, and if it dosnt budge im gona go for the socket thingy from halfords, and if it still wont budge i'll weld a bolt on, and if it still dont budge i might have to hire one of those hack saw things that the poor dude used on has golf. cheers for taking the time to reply to this post. all the best and a merry christmas to all, si

Don't know whether this is what you are on about from Halfords but these work pretty well.
