best do a search for this topic as it's been covered before, however they do appear on the for sale section every now and again, but also try eBay for either a complete kit or the parts needed. Do you know what size you need? (i.e. 40's or 45's)

I bought mine good few years ago from Skip Brown but that was for everything for me to fit them in 1 box.It wasnt cheap think it was around £1000, likes of tweeks sell new carbs or maybe 2nd hand set from ebay if you want to try and keep cost down.

Twin 40's are mainly used on 1.6's and twin 45's on 1.9 & mi16 engines.

A price of £1000 for the full carb set up is not that far off the price for a set of throttle bodies tbh, which are more refined.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, it doesn't matter what size the carbs themselves are, it's the chokes that determine the air flow, and the jets the fuel. So (roughly) 40's will have 32mm chokes on a 1.6, and a 34/36 perhaps on a 1.9, and guess what, a set of 45's will have..., yep, you guessed it!!

And £1000 is about half the price for a decent throttle body complete setup.

Second hand of coarse, inc the inlet manifold.

I only said that about engine sizes because of the amount of cars iv spotted that have twin 40's, "tend" to be 1.6's.

So why do carbs come in 40 & 45's then if it doesn't matter ?

Because the max choke size on a 40 is 36mm and on a 45 its 40mm allowing you to increase choke size once you flow more air thru other means, such as gas flowing the head, increasing RPM yada yada.

I bought mine used then overhauled them, and after buying the odd bits and pieces and prior to having them set up the cost was approx £600.

A new set of 40s, with trumpets and filters cost me around £800 from Aldon a couple of years back. Fitting (not an easy task on a TU) and a quite a bit of fettling upped the bill to around £1300, iirc. I supplied the manifold and linkage.
