i drive like an old woman and would hope for at least 28 - 30 , but im getting 25 top would changing the ecu back to standard help with this?

I also get a strong smell of fuel on startup and poor idle when cold

Sounds like chronic overfuelling - Try the original ECU and see if it's any better would be my guess!

Ditch the super chip. ECU temp sender is a common culprit.

There was a good write up on their chips which if I can find ill throw a link to, basically the general outcome was marginal power gains for massive fuel consumption.

I was getting 37mpg on a mixed run using my car for work a couple years ago, on standard Mi setup and management, does sound like it's just way overfuelling. Temp sender is an easy swap first though before ditching the chip

Distributor vacuum advance unit will affect part throttle economy too. These are often knackered.

swapped the chip over,

I'm assuming my spark plugs will be pretty much shot from all this over fueling so ill change those and an ECU temp sender and vaccum advance is worth a try ? how easy is the vaccum advance to do?

Vac Advance is a piece of pee to change, Just gotta make sure you hook it over right.
