Good Shell/bad Shell Rust?

Recommended Posts

Rolando

£200 later i've manage to get my non sun roof shell back. so now comes the time to find out if i wasted £250 or not.

i'm jacking the car up tomorrow to check underneath so just wondering where do i look mainly for rust? the innner wings have surface rust so nothing major and the sills dont look too bad.

last thing i want is to chuck anymore money at it to find out its a rust bucket.

also when i started removing the seats, under the rear seats theres water. where could have the water come from? all the windows are up.

thanks Ro

Check:

behind fuel tank

beneath fuel filler, there is a web of metal there which traps bits

inside arches, they can hold crap right up the back of the sill at the rear and rot arch out.

under seats as you have said, usually comes from rear window seals shrinking or tailgate

under bonnet at either side, tend to rust right down the joint from inner wing

jacking points, from being improperly lifted previously - and in fact non-jacking points like under sills.
