Air Intake Support

Recommended Posts

When recently doing work on the car I've been looking at how poorly suppored the air intake system is, my filter is only held on by a bracket on the driver side wich has seen better days and after that it all seems to just rest in the bay, is there supposed to be any support for the AFM or is this as designed? Seems a poor design if so!

there's a bracket which bolts to the exhaust manifold and the underneath of air filter housing. held on with m7 bolts and m8 nuts

i think they are still available from main dealer 1437.98, and cost £15

but if not, a have a few good condition ones here

Will have a look to see if mine is there at all then, I don't recall seeing it. If not I'll be in touch Jord!

Is the AFM really completely unsupported then? How rubbish.

nope there's a bracket for that too, I guess your car has previously had a K&N.

Yeah, my previous 1.6 was almost totally standard when I got it, and the AFM was supported by a bracket that went by the side of the battery and hooked in to the bracket for the coil (wing mounted coil).

The AFM bracket should be connected to the AFM in two seperate places, using two bolts for the plastic AFM inlet & one M8 bolt in the side near the plug on the standard mounting as shown in Meirions picture from service box.

Ok, on a related note before I put a wanted ad up, on the oil breather (where the oil cap plugs in) it looks like there's a fitting for this to be bolted on, I assume where the accelerator cable bracket is fitted. Is this correct as at the moment it appears mine is virtually freestanding?

The oil filler tower bolts on at the rear with a 10mm bolt - the fitting on the front doesn't attach to anything, despite looking like it should.
