Mi16 Engine. Worth Removing For Water Pump Fitting

Recommended Posts

dee205

Once I get the car into the garage it needs a water pump fitted. I know it can be done in situ but is it worth removing the engine and renweing/bebuilding other bits too?

In an efford to get the car back on the road and it will have undergone alot of work. Bits and pieces resprayed, wheels painted, bumpers refurbed, brakes etc etc. On the engine side I would like to make be do some minor mods like a cam etc. Nothing to mad or expensive but rather a reliable tight engine. Not sure on what would be needed in the line of replacing oil seals around the engine, bearing etc and bottom engine bits. Really don't want to spend a fortune if I can help it so any advice and/or cost of these bit and bobs will be appreciated.

I've done all of these in situe...over the past couple of years.

If you have a garage big enough to take the engine out, i would say do it.

To do just the water pump in situe, it's not worth it, but.. if you're doing the pump, cam belt, cam, crankshaft oil seals at either end, you'll spend the time to take it out skinning you're knuckles and swearing / struggling.

i want a garage.

Was thinking about sticking a cam in it and it would only be right I suppose to change stem oil seals etc. But them there's always the option of decking the block but I'm not sure how much work or money this would involve.
