Can any one tell which carb set up is best for a 1900 8 valve 40s or 45s. Also should i expect aprox 10 bhp more.

My 1.9 is on webber 40s and has had alot of work done to the head (fast road cam and port/polish) and the 40s are plenty big enough

As far as power gains im not sure you get much more power ,its more that the power is there right away when you want it.

Oh yes and they sound bloody fantastic :lol:

My 1.9 was also on 40's the head and cam were pretty much standard. I don't know exactly how much extra bhp they gave but once they were set up it was definatly quicker and I thought smoother too. (louder aswell) :)

I have 45 on mine and standard they have the same jets in them..

Definately get them balanced, I agree with all the other comments, they do sound the nuts especially if you got 4 branch manifold and nice exhaust!!

Good Luck and let us know how it goes and what you think.. (noise)

Scott.

Probably a good idea as a 1900 is going to want 36mm chokes, with a bit of head work you might even need more and then you are out of 40 DCOEs.

I have 40s on mine, I wont be replaceing them but given the choice again I would have gone straight for 45s.

I have 45's on mine, together with a sorted head and cam etc, certainly goes well. Oh and as has been said above, they sound very nice and quite loud at high revs.

I have just picked up some 45's for my 1.9. Do i need to anything with the ignition side or can i run the standard distributor. I've got the manifold, fuel regulator and pump and am hoping that will be enough. Any help or advide would be much appreciated

mine runs the std distributor and connections etc. All I did was fit the regulator, and the carbs, removed the ECU but left the wiring in place (I haven't a clue what goes where and what they do so chose to leave them in place under the bonnet etc) and that was it.

I have 40's and a Magnex exhaust and have never been clocked at more than 89db.

All the noise with carbs is induction and is at the front.

if you do have induction noise issues at scrutineering.... drop a cushion under the bonnet or a layer of rubber foam, it worked for mine for years...jsut remember to take it out as soon as you clear srutineering lol

That's not always viable though is it, scrutineering is static, engine off, then i've always been noise tested while queuing for or literally just after the first run at Sprints. Although Autocrossing/Rallying etc is different yes.

Yer they have started to noise test at intervals during the event. Mind you though the last one i did was in oct and this was the first time i've seen this done. It could have been down to fact that the venue had been in dispute with locals and it went to court and the motor club won but with certain restrictions.

Not being a member of the spelling gestpo I'm loathed to point it out but in the interests of helping doing any searches you might do it should be handy to note it's " Weber " not " Webber " :)

Don't they reckon the 40's will give you more torque and the 45's a better top end?

Can't say I've tried 45's but my 40's on an aftermarket exhaust manifold has a pretty good torque curve

Swings and roundabouts, considering either 40's or 45's will have similar size chokes it's pretty irrelevant though.
