Rad Switch, Diff Colours?

Recommended Posts

Headling

Hi Guys, I have dragged my pug out for a blast and have put a new rad switch in it as the old one wasnt working (we had to bridge out at brands and kept the fan running all the time ), I went to my local motor factor and got a new 3 pin rad switch, i then noticed it was running alot hotter before the fan cut in????

Then I had a think and checked the switchs side by side, the original one had a purple ring around it and the new one had a red ring around it?

Do these come in at different temps?

What one would you recommend and do you have any part numbers for me to order the right one?

My car is a 2.0 8v turbo btw.

I did try a search but didnt find the info I needed.

Thanks in advance :)

Purple ones are lower, 92d iirc, and the original red ones are 98ish or so.

yes they do have different temperature ratings and the colour of the ring does give a quick guide to what they are, there's also normally the switch on and off temps stamped on them, which is which I can't find information on though apart from Blue for the highest temp.

part numbers and temps for the two speed ones are -

1264 17

87/83-92/88 DEG

1264 27

84/79-88/83 DEG

1264 45

101/96-97/92DEG

BE Blue.

is it the blue 3 pins in a row type?

So shall I go for this one?

1264 17

Sorry to jump on this thread, but what would be the right sensor for a gti6 conversion?

I'll give my local motor factors a go, the red one they dug had about a inch of dust on and the other newer ones he had were 2 pin, I'll give them a go or I'll check Euro car parts website?

Thanks again guys!!
