Turbo Technics Conversion (im Very Confused)

Recommended Posts

dimma-mabz-83

hi guys ive trawled through using the search device and have had no luck so any help would be appreciated.ive got a 1.9 gti dimma 1988,i picked up a turbo technics conversion for it which consisted of the manifold/turbo and a intercooler.we have stripped the turbo and its all good.i cant work out what else i need to do.do i look out for a fifth injector t/t system or is there another way around this such as upgrading my current injectorsif so what injectors do i buy.also is there anything else i need to do apart from pipework.ive spoke to a turbo bloke and he seems to think its pretty much a bolt on and go scenario but i want to check with some experts as my engine is where my car holds its value as it has only just clocked 38k.im slowly starting to understand it all but its quite a bit to take in.cheers

I hope it's not one of the so called TT conversion off ebay which are normally std XU10 turbo's and manifolds

But I really would get a aftermarket ECU then you can just bolt the turbo on providing the engine is in fine tune and not worry about anything else, If you use the 5th injector set up it's rather crude but did the job when ECU where very expensive years ago

As I think I said in the head gasket post a proper ECU that runs a map sensor will allow more controlled ignition which will kerb the incorrect detonation on a higher compression engine. An MF2 is a bodge by comparison. 80's technology versus 2009 technology - ZX Spectrum versus modern PC!

The Turbo technics kit was never a bolt on. They lowered the compression by using special pistons.

Heres some info from my website www.peugeot-205.co.uk

If you want more detailed information please visit the site, it could be just the help your after.

The list below shows what you will need for a turbo conversion or the equivelent. There maybe additional items required for a turbo to be added, This is just a guideline to help you.

Turbo shopping list:

- Suitable turbo manifold (Turbo technics or Pug performance)

- Specially made front mounted intercooler (pace products or forge motorsport)

- Suitable turbo i.e. Garrett t25 (Turbo dynamics or Turbo technics)

- Oil feed pipe from oil pressure take off piece (euro.hydraulics@virgin.net)

- Oil pressure switch oil take off (Demon tweeks)

- Oil return pipe direct to sump (Goodridge or Demon tweeks)

- Baffled sump to prevent oil surge (Pug performance)

- Fifth injector mounted in throttle body underside (Demon tweeks)

- Fifth injector controller i.e. MF2 (Demon tweeks)

- Solenoid for boost ignition retard i.e Micro dynamics (Demon tweeks)

- Fuel line for fifth injector coming off fuel injector rail feed (Demon tweeks)

- Suitable Hose for boost inlet pipes i.e. Samco (Demon tweeks)

- Suitable custom exhaust system (Powerflow dealer)

- Lower compression pistons i.e. Skimmed, Forged (Turbo technics or Pug performance)

Turbo Technics don't do conversions any more, only turbo re-manufacturing and an Elise Supercharger kit.

If you can afford to get an aftermarket ecu it'll be so much better, you can get some very good power from a tt conversion and a decent ecu.
