Td Rev Counter Sensor Part Number

Recommended Posts

Guest blimp

A bit of a long shot, but does anybody know the proper part number (and name) for the rev counter fly wheel pickup sensor for the 1.8td (XUD7T) engine?

I have variously seen it called a hall effect sensor and tdc sensor, but neither were any help when I rang my local Pug dealer the other day.

I have been meaning to get the rev counter sorted for about 5 years, but always put it off, but now the car is about to turn 19, I thought I'd give her a treat!

Cheers

Maybe one of these:

5918 62 or 5918 75

Hope it helps.

Fairly sure the part number you need is 5918.75.

Thanks for your help people - part ordered and on its way.

I had found the thread mentioned above originally (was the reason why I registered!), which gave me hope, but my local pug dealer struggles with the more mature model!

I have the part, but now have no idea how to get the old sensor out!,

i am presuming that it just wedges into the block, as there appears to be no screws or bolts holding it on a bracket. There is a hole down the middle of the one in the block, but I can't work out if this is what is holding it in. I have tried torx and allen keys in it but with no luck.

And to add to the mystery, the new part doens't have the holeinit, but it looks ike the one ithe old thread, so I'll justcross my fingers and hope it fits!

Its awkward to get at but there is a 10mm bolt which runs through the edge of the block clamping the sensor in place.

Its just about possible with the PAS pump & bracket still fitted but for the time it takes to remove them its much easier to do this first imo.

What hole do you mean?

IIRC you keep the mount whats fitted to your car now & just slide the new sensor into it.

TBH you don't really need to remove the sensor & bracket, once the 10mm bolt is loosened the old sensor should pull out & you can fit the new one back in but it is much easier with it removed.

Graham.

Here is a picture I took, of what i think is my sensor having traced the wire back from the connector on the front. The bolt I have arrowed - is this the one you mean to undo?

Doh, having moved the picture off my phone onto my pc, it is fairly obvious how it comes apart!, or at least it looks obvious now!

yup! loosen that bolt, slide the sensor out, then your new sensor (unless they've changed) will have a few 1mm long tabs on the end of it.

Push the new sensor in till it touches the Flywheel, tighten 10mm bolt, tabs will wear away from any unevenness of the flywheels outer diameter and leave the sensor itself untouched and at a perfect distance to get a good reading but not too close

Well, I finally got the old sensor out and put the new one in, but still no working rev counter. There is a chance that I didn't get it in far enough, so I'll have another go over the weekend - as long as it isn't too cold as everyhting went a bit numb today!

Oh the joy of working blindly behind the engine, not being able to see what you are undoing makes it a lot of fun.
