Hot Starting/stalling

Recommended Posts

Bottrill

Last night was the "turn the key moment" after HG failure after two weeks of ownership. The started, ran it for about 10 mins to get the oil round etc then just cut out. It would start again but was very reluctant but took about 8-10 seconds before finally catching.

The head has been off, skimmed, block faced cleaned etc. Valves were re-lapped, guides were fine, but new valves seals fitted as two of these were weaping. All buckets/shims were re-fitted in correct order. We checked the valve clearances and all exhaust were 0.30mm and inlets were 0.20, 0.19, 0.19, 0.20mm

During re-build a new vacuum advance was fitted, distributor cleaned.

The starting/ cutting out issue continued for about 5 times before finally we turned it off.

A week after i purchased the car I serviced the fuel filter, plugs, genuine leads, so I am ruling these out at the moment.

I am just about to order a new ECU temp sensor, as im sure this has seen better days.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.

I have managed to clean out the ignition module below the expansion bottle due to being soaked in coolant which seemed to have cured the cutting out problem, but it still does not like to start when its hot, like its flooding the engine on turnover.

I have had my head buried in the Haynes manual but it has not provided many solutions. Has anyone has any previous experience in the past ans got to the bottom of it?

Again, thanks in advance.

Checked for air leaks?

Take off the air inlet pipe, and block with something sturdy (I normally use a Haynes manual).

If there is a leak, could be the oil filler neck bolt on side of inlet.
