have just driven home, luckily i made it all the way!

just shifting into first to park my gear lever has gone loose, car wont go into gear, feels like the linkage has gone!

could this be the synchro mesh?? the car is an '86 1.6 gti.

is it a common problem?? i am new to 205's only had the car less than a month!

need help as it is my only method of transport

Hi Jake

I know the guy you brought the car from.

the linkages arnt to bad a job to replace. Miles sells them on eBay for less than £50 I think and as said they are top quality

(TIP)

I use the track rod end tool to prise the old ones out that were hard to remove.

Also, i recently just had to replace the long linkage rod on my BE gear linkage on my 86 GT 1.4, but for a week i kept the old one on.

I drove it carefully last week and didn't go round corners to hard as it kept popping off.

The car can be used by just letting the old rod rest on top of the connection bit if you need to, just take your time when driving
