Strange Bilstien Insert Problem

Recommended Posts

sam jfm

Hi chaps! i have just come to fit my coilovers that i bought S/H and i have come across a problem.

one insert has the standard m14 x 1.5 nut on the top tightens up and is A ok!

The opposite one on the other hand wont take the m14 x 1.5 nut ( its about the right dia but wrong pitch and gets stuck after about half a turn) and the threads seem to be intact without damage! anyone else has this problem before?

cheers sam

are the part numbers the same at the top? Have you pulled the inserts out of the bodies and are the piston rods the same length and are the bottoms the same, should be M10 x 1.0 thread on the bottom of the piston rods. Early ones have a flat for a screwdriver, later ones are a hex for (a 5mm I think) allen key

have you checked the diameter with a caliper?

I'd be tempted to either run a thread file over it or really it wants cutting back with a die if it's just a little damaged
