Idle Speed Problem

Recommended Posts

Guest matarmitage88

Help.

My 205 gti 1.9 even when u lower the idle level by the idle screw goes back up to 2k, so I bring it back down again and it goes back up, until almost at the bottom when it stays idling low.

I do not want to keep turning it down as this is not solving the problem.

I have sent to a garage to check for air leaks but nothing

Any ideas anyone, is there an idle control valve? An air flow metre?

Thanks

Mat

Sounds like it needs to go to someone who knows what they are doing. There is a crude idle air valve that should allow air through with the engine cold, to allow a fast idle when cold. When hot this should then shut. It certainly sounds like there is an air leak somewhere from how you describe it.

Assuming you still have the standard air intake pipework on the last 90' section between the afm & throttle body, when its warm squash the hose that joins into this one just behind the radiator, you can only see a small part of it as it disappears into the back of the engine bay underneath all the other bits.

If this drops you idle back down then the SAD isn't closing meaning either the SAD is dead, not plugged in or you have a wiring problem.

Graham.
