Mi16 Hesitant At High Revs Under Full Load

Recommended Posts

I've finally been able to insure my 205 Mi16 and it had it's first outing saturday, i've owned the car since the start of october and i had trouble when i first bought it with poor running/cutting out etc.

I sorted this issue out by repairing the wiring to the ignition amp, tweaking the male plug pins to the ign. amp, afm and coil to ensure a good connection and cleaning up the engine bay earths - nearside inner wing, battery terminals, gearbox earth and ignition amp earth.

The car ran sweet, pulled like a train but i only had a short piece of road to put the engine under load.

Saturday night i took it to the petrol station filled it up and drove round but it missfired really bad at anything over 4000rpm at WOT, pulled over played with the ignition amp plug and afm plug and it stopped missing.

Tonight i've been for a blast and it seems to hold back slightly on and off at high revs (5000rpm plus) under full load.

What are your thoughts? Dizzy, dizzy cap, igniton amp, coil, leads, (plugs are new), fuel pump?

Have i missed any earthing points that may be significant?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks, ad.

I can't remember if the Tacho is ecu driven of off the coil on this engine, if its off the coil what does it do when it misfires?

check that you are getting the right signals from the TPS is another one, it may not be getting the WOT signal and could be running lean.

Cheers for that mate, the tacho is coil driven i believe and it does seem to co ordinate itself with the lack of power.

I'll check it out today if i get chance.

I was getting this recently. A split second cut in power and the tacho would drop then come back up. changed the coil and it went away. My vote is on either that or the ignition amp.
