Will A 1.9 Mi16 Starter Fit A 2.0?

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 405 Mi16 and its got a sticky starter so im gonna replace it. Can someone tell me if one off a 1.9 mi16 will fit a 2.0 mi16 as there seems to be more 1.9 ones about.

Are there any other starters that will fit as well? Im assuming that one from a 1.9 gti wont fit.

Im new to the mi engine so afraid i dont know anything about them.

2.0 Mi16/S16 starter motors are a bit odd, in that the solenoid is on the opposite side of the starter to normal in order to clear the inlet manifold. If you're still running the standard ACAV inlet then I think you're stuck with a 2.0 Mi16 starter motor, whereas if you're running a 1.9 Mi16 / GTi-6 inlet I imagine (as I've not tried) that any XU starter should fit.

Yeah the car is completly standard.

Just found on another post that its a XU10J4 iron block RFY / RFT 155/150 bhp engine, and that its the same as a Phase 1 306 S16, ZX 16v, and some rare Xantia VSX's.

Im therefore assuming that any starter from one of the above will fit?

Other than placing a wanted ad in the for sale section, where would be the best place to pick one up?

I can get a new one from my local motor parts store for £92 +VAT so im going to see how much it is to recondition my old one first.

If its more than half the price of a new one ill just buy new :)
