Cti Water Leak

Recommended Posts

stufarri

A real pain the arse this is.

No holes in the roof and no visible leaks anywhere.

Under the passenger rear seat is soaking though - I mean a massive puddle that soaks into the seats and make the windows dripping wet - any ideas where from?

Thanks

Good place to start would be the boot seal

rear light clusters seals can go as well

best way to find out is remove the rear seats

get your torch out while someone sprays the back with a hose

from the outside obviously

If you do find out i'd be interested to know what it is as our CJ sometimes does it. I presumed it was part and parcel of owning a convertible.

No worries mate, just need it to stop raining 1st!

The neighbours already think I'm strange with 2 205s - I dread to think what they will say when I'm crouched in the back of the CTI with my wife spraying water at it :P

Might just be the way it's parked? I find if I park mine facing downhill that quite a lot of water can get in....no problems on level or facing uphill. If it helps It seems to get in around where the hood seats against leading edge of the the main door window...more so on the passenger side than the driver's on mine.

We've got 2 as well plus my Alfa 159 company motor, so god know what they must think of us, not that we give a damn :(

Funny you should mention that as I live on a hill and it is parked nose down. :)

We have a few cars and moving them all around is a pain in the arse as only 3 fit on the driveway. Pity really as I'd love a 309 Goody to add to the collection! Oh and balls to the neighbours, I agree!

It could be leaking in from the rear window seals?

Chances are that it may be water running down the rear of the hood and in by the hinges, which is where the hood wears first.

Henry...I assume you mean where the hood material folds back behind the rear passenger windows....if so, mine has been torn both sides since I got my CTi in 2003, but I've never had water get into the car there....strange, but presume there are drainage channels to run any ingress awat from there.

Yes that is where I meant. I have not seen any drainage channels when I had the roof off, but there may well be. Mine are also torn and a couple of times it has had water in after a very wet Pugfest, but it is hard to tell as it lives in the garage most of the time and only comes out when dry.

Right- as a temp measure I put some silicone along the bottom edge of the roof above the 1/4 badges.

This seems to have done the trick.

At the weekend I'll undo the roof and lift the sides up and seal it all properly and refit the flap parts of the hood.

Fingers crossed it will be dry after that! I'll let you know

Hi

I've got a CTI and it has the same problem, although it only does it when the rain is torrential. So far I've changed the boot seal and at least that is watertight. I think that the water finds a way in around where the roof hinges 'cos my carpet is soaking just under there. Desparately trying to get my garage cleared to get it undercover.

Good luck!

Bought some black gutter sealant today too so I can take off the plastic trim around the hinges and seal the frame from the inside.

I did find that the water rolls off the hood and then soaks into the foam seal where the hood is touching the 1/4 panel and gets inside that way.

It may be a bit trial and error I think. Don't you just love old cars!

Mine has been doing it recently aswell, as mentioned already only since we have had alot of rain.

All ive done so far is remove the rear seats (as thet just soak it all up) and put one of those small granule filled tub dehumidifiers in and then have a proper look at the weeknd when its light.

i believe there are drainage pipes seen here in the photos i just nipped out to take, mine were blocked so unblocked and it stopped raining! typical!

Great post and photos, I didn't realise they had these - I'll add it to the waterproofing project list ;)

First thing I did was check these were clear, as I used the nearside one to route the wires for the motor for the boot lock into the car.

I had to replace the nearside drainage tubes on mine as it had become blocked and then split causing water to go over the rear light wiring!

Good job to check the tubes are still connected at the top or use some sealant to help as one of mine kept falling off,

Me too! Opened the door on mine for the first time in a couple of months and it resembles a paddling pool! Rear seats are so soggy I think they're ruined :) And as for the CD changer under the seat------RIP.

I didn't know the drain tubes were there, so that's a great bit of imfo. I reckon I'm going to have to strop it all out inside, find the leaks and start re building the interior from scratch- I'd be very surprised if the carpet isn't totally f***ed

I guess this is what you get with an 18 month wet-season
